Whenever a new system—be it store-bought or developed internally—is installed there are bound to be a number of obstacles. This is especially true of T&E systems as they are rarely high on the priority list of anyone outside of accounts payable. Speaking at a recent accounts payable conference, CAN’s director of corporate governance, Tino Aurigemma shared his experiences in installing a new automated T&E system. He also shared the problems he ran into and identified the things he would have done differently, if he knew when he started what he knew at the end.

IOMA’s A/P Conf. Highlights: The Future of Accounts Payable and A/P Audits

How Allegheny Energy’s A/P Dept. Developed a Web-Based System
As companies everywhere cut back, a growing number are turning to technology to help address the needs of doing more with less. Allegheny Energy, which continues to face severe financial pressures, has already consolidated several accounts payable units into one centralized location and reduced staff by over one-quarter. But with employees in many locations, the company had to find a way to facilitate workflow. After examining several commercial packages, the company decided to develop its own web-based processing system. “We call it Tran$act,” says Dave Hovis, the company’s manager of payment processing.
