Don’t Cut Staff Training During a Recession

During an economic downturn, the order of the day is to cut costs. One area that typically gets cut back is employee training and development, including attending conferences and seminars, pursuing professional certification, and other educational efforts. If your AP department is feeling the pinch here, make the argument that now is exactly the time to stay focused on employee training. That’s because the U.S. economy is cyclical and the downturn will not last. "When [the economy] comes back, you'll be better prepared, better educated, and have better talent," said HR consultant David Nour, CEO of the Atlanta-based Be One Now Inc. For this reason, organizations need to continue to develop their employees.
